Tuesday, December 21st, 2010Wear a hat and sunscreen or sunblock, and don’t get overheated. Drink plenty of water, and avoid the sun during the hottest hours of the day. Ultraviolet rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Everyone (except young infants) should use sunscreen or sunblock with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 on all exposed areas — don’t forget your belly and places with stretch marks! Apply 30 minutes before going out in the sun for the best protection. Reapply about every hour or so, and after getting wet, even if it’s waterproof.

Bites from insects such as bees, fleas, mosquitoes, wasps, hornets or chiggers can be dangerous if you are allergic to the bite or sting.
